The two main installations for solar PV systems on existing building sites are roof-mounted and solar canopies – canopies being free-standing structures with solar panels on the roof, located on parking lots with space for vehicles beneath them. This presentation will examine the basic requirements for installation of solar canopies, and the benefits for a site in energy cost reduction through onsite electrical generation, as well as creation of shade. Also, the typical ROI, and options of financing including a third-party paying for the installation under a power purchase agreement.

CRASE is an acronym for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events. During this CRASE presentation, attendees will learn about disaster response, how to prepare for and respond to an active shooter event by using the Avoid, Deny, Defend method. They will have a better understanding of what their roll is during an active shooter event and how they can develop an action plan to improve their odds in a worst case scenario. Also, attendees will be introduced to methods of target reduction through the use of environmental design principles.

This valuable filmed presentation is by Dr. William Bahnfleth, Professor of Architectural Engineering at Pennsylvania State University, who chairs the project committee for ASHRAE Standard 241. Find out what you need to know to help your facility plan for COVID-19, influenza viruses and other pathogens that cause problems for building occupants. Standard 241 provides requirements for many aspects of air systems design, installation, operation and maintenance. The presentation was given at the 25th Westford Building Science Symposium organized by Building Science Corporation.

As of 2012, the Green Building Certification Institute allows individuals with LEED Professional credentials to report any education related to green buildings to the Institute for continuing education. Upon request, Facilities Expo will send a certificate of completion for sessions on green building topics to any LEED Professional who requests one for GBCI documentation purposes, as long as they make the request at the conclusion of the class session, and as long as their badge was scanned.
