8:40 AM - 9:40 AMSession 1: Wireless Lighting Controls – a Way to Future-Proof Your FacilityDanna Jensen - P.E., LEED AP, Principal , Certus Consulting Engineers
One of the fastest changing technologies in the building industry today is wireless lighting controls. Intelligent, network-based systems with full building integration are making huge advances in the market – advancing in such a way as to “future-proof” buildings. Total building lighting control solutions using wireless technology boast the benefits of being scalable, flexible and easy to install. This presentation will discuss the latest technologies in wireless lighting controls, regulatory compliance, and how it affects your facility today. The discussion will further address some of the perceived issues with using these applications such as security, interference, and reliability and what you can be doing today to prepare for the future of lighting controls.
9:50 AM - 10:50 AMSession 2: The New EPA Clean Air in Buildings Challenge – Applying the IAQ/Ventilation Lessons Learned from the Pandemic to Your Building TodayScott West - Mechanical Engineer/Commissioning and Energy Lead , Harrison, French & Associates
Learn about the EPA Clean Air in Buildings Challenge, announced last March, which aims to keep momentum going on indoor air quality progress as the Covid pandemic winds down.  Many facility staff were scrambling to react to the pandemic.  Now that the pressure has turned down a bit, it’s time to take a step back and evaluate what IAQ priorities should be and where changes or upgrades are still needed.  This presentation informs facility managers how to tackle the IAQ/ventilation issue strategically instead of reactively.
11:00 AM - 12:00 PMSession 3: Continuity During Winter Storm 2021 – Dallas Love Airport’s Success StoryBenj C. Korson - CEM , Emergency Management Coordinator
An airport is a busy and dynamic organization and being resilient to disruption is just as challenging as it is for a small city. During the 2021 Winter Storm, Dallas Love Airport encountered a complex severe weather incident during a pandemic that also impacted the infrastructure, supply-chain, and workforce capabilities. This presentation, coordinated and sponsored by the North Texas Chapter of the Association of Continuity Professionals, will discuss those challenges, how they were overcome, the lessons learned and the improvements that were tested in the following 2022 winter storms.
1:00 PM - 2:00 PMSession 4: Proactive Asset Management – How to Take the First Step for Your FacilityChad Westbrook - Chief Revenue Officer , Castro Roofing of Texas
This presentation will focus on the actions needed to transform from a reactive break-fix owner into a proactive, budget-approved master. The speaker will dive deep into the starting actions required to start making the transition and the data needed to stay in front of budgets, planning, and unplanned failures
2:10 PM - 2:40 PMSession A: High Performance Building: Performance By Design

This valuable film provides in-depth look at how the integrative design process happens for high-performance buildings. The film, produced by RMI, formerly the Rocky Mountain Institute, includes examples of how design teams collaborate with people involved in HVAC and other building systems in ways that integrate building design elements --such as daylighting and renewable energy -- into other building systems for optimal performance. Case history examples of this process include the Empire State Building retrofit, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Phipps Conservancy, the Desert Living Center, Willow School and Chicago Botanic Gardens.

8:40 AM - 9:40 AMSession 5: NFPA 70E: What You Need to Know about Arc Flash SafetyChristopher DeWaal - Director of MEP Engineering/Vice President , CPH Inc.
Hundreds of worker deaths and thousands of injuries could be prevented each year by following the latest edition of NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace®. Originally developed at OSHA's request, NFPA 70E provisions are applied to identify electrical safety hazards and reduce employee exposure to those hazards.  This presentation will focus on arc flash hazards, associated safety-related maintenance requirements, and personal protective equipment. Also included will be information on updates to the latest 70E standard.
9:50 AM - 10:50 AMSession 6: Energy Conservation in a K12 School District: How Mansfield ISD Saves Nearly $2 Million Each Year and Makes It Easier to BreatheKelly Campbell - CEM, Energy Conservation Program Manager , Mansfield Independent School District
Cris Muñoz - ATEM, Energy Conservation Specialist , Mansfield Independent School District

Learn the details of the impressive energy efficiency achievements of Mansfield Independent School District, a 2021 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence award winner. Speakers will describe dramatic energy savings for its 54-building system, with a projected cost savings of about $18 million over a 10-year period. Included will be information on effecting mechanical and behavioral changes that lead to lowered utility costs and a reduction of CO2 emissions of more than 65,000 metric tons since 2012.

11:00 AM - 12:00 PMSession 7: Best Practices in Machinery Reliability – Lessons from Refineries That Apply to All FacilitiesKeith Macaluso , T.F. Hudgins Inc., an Allied Reliability company
This session will examine proven reliability technologies and programs implemented by top refineries -- which keep machinery in critical operations running smoothly, and extend asset life. The speaker will examine these reliability best practices, which are applicable to facilities of various types. Included will be information on bearing storage and installation, superior lubrication practices and strategies, and other tools that can improve asset reliability, such as precision alignment and ultrasonic testing.
1:00 PM - 2:00 PMSession 8: Green Stormwater Infrastructure: How to Improve Water Management on Your Site and Why It MattersKathy Jack - Ph.D. , The Nature Conservancy
Fouad Jaber - Ph.D., P.E. , Texas A&M, AgriLife Extension
Susan Alvarez - P.E., CFM , City of Dallas - OEQS
Dallas-Fort Worth is the fastest growing metro area in the U.S. Natural land continues to be converted to impervious surfaces like asphalt and concrete, which don’t absorb rainfall, and cities are literally outgrowing their drainage systems. Thus, it’s increasingly common for stormwater to overwhelm drainage systems, with resultant flooding – a problem that is expected to increase with climate change-related precipitation. Learn about a green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) study, conducted by The Nature Conservancy and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, in collaboration with the City of Dallas and The Trust for Public Land, which shows how and where decision-makers, can cost-effectively integrate GSI, including together with gray infrastructure, to improve stormwater management. Solutions discussed will include bioretention areas, rain gardens, and cisterns.
2:10 PM - 2:40 PMSession B: High Performance Building: Performance By Design

This valuable film provides in-depth look at how the integrative design process happens for high-performance buildings. The film, produced by RMI, formerly the Rocky Mountain Institute, includes examples of how design teams collaborate with people involved in HVAC and other building systems in ways that integrate building design elements --such as daylighting and renewable energy -- into other building systems for optimal performance. As of 2012, the Green Building Certification Institute allows individuals with LEED Professional credentials to report any education related to green buildings to the Institute for continuing education. Upon request, Facilities Expo will send a certificate of completion for sessions on green building topics to any LEED Professional who requests one for GBCI documentation purposes, as long as they make the request at the conclusion of the class session, and as long as their badge was scanned.
