Dallas-Fort Worth is the fastest growing metro area in the U.S. Natural land continues to be converted to impervious surfaces like asphalt and concrete, which don’t absorb rainfall, and cities are literally outgrowing their drainage systems. Thus, it’s increasingly common for stormwater to overwhelm drainage systems, with resultant flooding – a problem that is expected to increase with climate change-related precipitation. Learn about a green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) study, conducted by The Nature Conservancy and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, in collaboration with the City of Dallas and The Trust for Public Land, which shows how and where decision-makers, can cost-effectively integrate GSI, including together with gray infrastructure, to improve stormwater management. Solutions discussed will include bioretention areas, rain gardens, and cisterns.
